I am fourteen and swim so right after i go to school i have swim practice so its just a hassle to take off the makeup so i dont wear it too often……. i just want to know your best products (at a reasonable price) and maybe remover so that i can wear makeup more often!

I have my cosmetology license. But I am more interested in makeup. While in school for cosmo we did a makeup sections and worked with it. I really want to get started and be a traveling Makeup artist and do weddings, dances etc. How can I get started? How much should I charge and should I make a portfolio?

yes start a portfolio on with the work you have done, ask friends if you can do their make up and photograph it. start small, make flyers and hand them out, ask your local shops if you can put them up.
advertise for things like occasional make up, weddings, prom and fancy dress.

if you want to get bigger once you finish school research a reliable brand of make up and buy a franchise. the advertising is already done for you, and people will have confidence in a bigger brand.

in the mean time though while doing your own thing make sure you use good quality make up and brushes. depending on what your doing and until your more experienced you want to keep your prices down, try $50 for prom etc and $70 for weddings.
ask friends and family what they would be willing to pay for professional make up to get a good idea and look around at other businesses.

I want to make a little extra money and I am a free lance makeup artist so I am also looking for good quality makeup products. Wanting to know about companies…Arbonne, Mary Kay, Avon, any others? Not looking to get rich quick or whatever jus a little extra cash and discounts on makeup.

My friend has introduced me to makeup and lately, I’ve been wanting to try out new colors and maybe change up my look. I’m an Asian girl with black hair and have pale skin. Do you have any suggestions when it comes to makeup for eyes, lips, face,etc? What brand of makeup do you use? Is it of good quality and long lasting?
Which is better kohl eyeliner, liquid eyeliner or gel eyeliner? Which one is long lasting? How about eyebrow pencils? Any suggestions?

Here’s my suggestion of an everyday look for you:

Face – since you’re just getting used to makeup, start off with something light like a tinted moisturizer (try Laura Mercier) or a mineral powder (try Bare Minerals). Also, some bronzer or blush would be fine.

Eyes – if you are experimenting with eyeshadow than Urban Decay’s Naked Palette is a good start. It has really great colors for an everyday neutral look. Try not to use so much eyeliner…especially on your waterline.

Lips – lip gloss is always good for an everyday look. If you want to wear lip stick make sure that it’s not too dark of a color, especially since you have black hair. Revlon Lip Butters are a really good mix between lip stick/lip gloss so you should give those a try.

Just remember: play up your eyes OR play up your lips. NEVER make both dramatic (unless you’re going for that clown look)

Im just getting into makeup and really looking foward to start a collection. For holloween i was a zombie and i did my makeup really good and it kinda inspired me to be a makeup artist! Its not just holloween makeup i like to do but makeup in general! Thanks!

Natural routine would maybe be compressed powder. Or maybe liquid fondation then Compressed powder depends on what you like… Then maybe a light layer of blush or bronzer..
and some lip gloss

You could go to the mall and go to mac.. but personally i loooove sephora more because they have their brands but also like a gazillion other brands:)

I’m going into sixth grade but already girls in 5th grade are wearing makeup. I always tell my big sisters that I am NEVER going to wear makeup, but they say that someday I am going to wear makeup.Well, they started wearing Makeup in seventh grade.I’m just curious to know when did you, or when do you plan to wear makeup? When do you recommend me to wear makeup. By the way I’m 12 years old.

Your too young. At this age, the only makeup you should be wearing is lip gloss.
Try experimenting with mascara and concealer when your older, maybe around 13.

I currently work for a makeup store but am interested in working in a salon. I have a makeup certificate, so far I only do Makeup not cosmetology or esthetician and I keep reading everywhere that you have to be liscensed as either a cosmetologist or esthetician in order to work in a salon or spa is this true? Also, how do makeup artists at salons get paid (i.e. salary, hourly, tips…etc)? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When I wear makeup, it always looks as more of a cover up than enhancing. Only once did my makeup enhance my green eyes, and that was when I did a smokey eye with gold, copper and brown.

I see pictures of before\after makeup (no photoshopping!) and the makeup really helps the model.

What am I doing wrong?

You might be applying too much of the wrong stuff. What you need to do, is take the time to pick out your right skin tone in foundation. This makes a big difference(obviously :p). Moisturizer is a very important step…do that first. Liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer is a good choice. Apply a small amount to the back of your hand and use your finger to apply a thin layer all over your face. The warmth of your fingers help blend the make up better. Its okay if it doesn’t cover up all the redness or blemishes. Use concealer(only if you need to) and cover up redness of blemishes. Blend it out but not too much or you’ll wipe it away. Pat it on the spot and then blend out the area around it so it will fade into your skin. Then use powder to set everything and and keep your makeup there for a little while longer. For eyes, browns and coppers are good colors for green eyes as well as blue. To define your eyes, draw a THIN line on your top lash line and a VERY THIN line on the bottom lash line. If the color is dark but thin, it will enhance your eyes. If your lashes are dark, you could just curl your lashes and leave them like that, but if you want, its always good to apply a little. Just make sure its not clumpy mascara. Light blush on the apples of your cheeks gives you a natural looking flush and gives your face a healthy look to it. Again, not too much. If you want to apply bronzer, get a big fluffy brush get a LITTLE bronzer on it and use the "3B" method to apply it. Drag it from the middle of your forehead, across your temple, under your blush(if you have any on) and to your chin in one continuous wipe. Do the same on the other side. Lipstick to match your lip color. Some have darker lips naturally and some have really light pink lips, but you can always to whatever color you want as long as it isn’t to much. If you have a lot going on on your eyes and face, natural color. If you did your eyes and face really natural, you can do a bolder lip color. Gloss to match if you like.

I love watching YouTube beauty videos for a little over a year now, but I’ve noticed that some gurus never do makeup tutorials. Or even if they do the looks kind of all look very similar. Or they do some makeup tutorials, but rarely like only 2-3 makeup tutorials. I was wondering how some gurus do a lot of makeup tutorials, while others doesn’t? Is it because they aren’t that good with makeup?

I’m not really sure, maybe its a personal preference? Perhaps some like doing hauls, reviews and other videos rather then actually doing a makeup tutorial.
