MAKEUP BREAKOUTS – IS YOUR MAKEUP CAUSING YOUR ACNE?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Acne

0 MAKEUP BREAKOUTS IS YOUR MAKEUP CAUSING YOUR ACNE?Have you entered the FREE PRIZE GIVE AWAY?

Its frustrating. When you spend money on a product and it causes a reaction – a breakout – and you wish there was some way of knowing what products will not cause breakouts.

If i knew i would tell you. Sadly with all the ingredients that are being used it would be impossible and just a guess as to say which ingredients are actually problematic.

Because each of us are different a product that might make me BREAKOUT – might not make you BREAKOUT. We just cannot really say.

Its the most commonly asked question (well one) but it just does have a clear answer i’m afraid.

I wish it didn’t have to be this way – believe me.

Products still react on me and i still breakout often when i try something new.

Argh!

HOW TO: CURE ACNE BREAKOUTS

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Acne

0 HOW TO: CURE ACNE BREAKOUTSThe fight against blemishes can feel like a never ending battle – believe me i know.

In most cases it really can be won – or at the very least – controlled.

Understanding the basics of what does and does not cause breakouts and avoiding ingredients and triggers can go along way.

PLEASE don’t moisturise skin that doesn’t need it. If you are oily you really don’t need it – only moisturise skin that is dry. I know some people believe that all skin types need to be moisturised – but there is no evidence (in medical or dermatologist papers) that moisturising oily skin helps in any way. What oily skin does need though is antioxidants etc… if you must moisturise then consider a toner or serum – as these are lighter and will be less likely to clog pores.

Cleaning the skin keeps your skin healthy and free of dirt. I recommend the clarisonic very highly. I love it and it really has made a massive difference in my skin. Its expensive but its something i really believe in. Don’t worry about it if you don’t have one – its not necessary but its a great tool.

BHA and AHA products can help exfoliate the skin and thus reduce the likely hood of clogged pores.

Low pH BHA products aimed at normal/oily/dry skin types.

Proactive Solution – Clarifying Night Cream
Neutrogena – oil-free acne stress control hydrating Acne treatment
Paula’s Choice – 1%-2% beta hydroxy acid gel/lotion/liquid

Higher pH BHA products aimed at very dry/or sensitive skin types.

Clinqiue Turn Around Concentrate
Clinique Mild Scruffing Lotion (no alcohol)

Retin-a is a product you should look into as it can regulate how the skin produces new skin cells – making them healthier, smoother and less likely to breakout.

Not everyone can tolerate Retin-a but it’s worth trying.

All skins require sunscreen especially when using AHA/BHA and/or Retin-a.

Benzoyl peroxide can disinfect the skin and kill the bacteria that causes blemishes. Don’t stop treat – treat the areas that breakout.

If you are experiencing major breakouts then click the link below and it will take you to an aggressive treatment plan for consistent blemishes.

Acne Rosacea Treatment

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Acne

0 Acne Rosacea TreatmentDr. Thomas P. Habif, MD discusses Acne Rosacea Treatment. See more at http://www.dermnet.com PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!!
Treatment of rosacea

Rosacea may be treated with both topical and oral medications.

Topical therapy

Rosacea may respond to treatment with topical antibiotics. Topical

antibiotic

are not as effective as oral antibiotics but may be used for

initial treatment for mild to moderate cases and for maintenance after

stopping oral antibiotics.

Metronidazole

Metronidazole Tris commonly prescribed. MetroGel, MetroCream and

MetroLotion are available in a 0.75% concentration and are applied

twice each day. Noritate cream is 1%

metronidazole and it is effective

when applied once each day. Bedtime application is usually the most

convenient. Clindamycin in a lotion or gel base is used to treat acne.

It

is sometimes effective for rosacea.

Sulfacetamide/sulfur

Sulfacetamide/sulfur lotions are effective as monotherapy. Sulfacet-R

is flesh colored and hides redness. It is also

available in a tint free

base. Plexion is available as a lotion and wash. AVAR Green has a green

base and attenuates erythema. Rosac is a cream based form of

sulfacetamide and

sulfur that contains sunscreens. Sunlight makes

rosacea worse. Cream based medications are best for patients with dry

skin. There are many other formulations.

Azelaic acid

Azelaic acid 15% gel or Finacea is effective and well tolerated in the

treatment of papulo-pustular rosacea. Both pustules and erythema

respond.

Oral antibiotics

Oral

antibiotics are effective and reliable treatment for rosacea. Both

the skin and eye manifestations respond. They are more effective than

topical preparations and used as first

line therapy for moderate to

severe rosacea. Low doses of medication may be effective. The starting

dose for doxycycline is 20, 50, 75 or 100 mg once or twice each day.

Tetracycline or erythromycin are started at 500 mg twice each day.

Resistant cases can be treated with minocycline 50, 75 or 100 mg twice

daily.

Medication is stopped when the

pustules have cleared. The response

after treatment is unpredictable. Some patients clear in 2 to 4 weeks

and stay in remission for weeks or months. Others flare and require

long-term suppression with oral antibiotics. Treatment should be

tapered to the minimum dosage that provides adequate control. Patients

who remain clear should periodically be

given a trial without

medication.

Nicomide

Patients who are reluctant to take oral antibiotics may improve with a

preparation of nicotinamide and vitamins called Nicomide. This

product

has antiinflammatory properties.

Isotretinoin

Isotretinoin, 0.5 mg/kg/day for 20 weeks is effective in treating

severe, refractory Rosacea. Much lower doses may be

effective.

Patients resistant to conventional treatment were treated with oral

isotretinoin, 10 mg/d, for 16 weeks. Papular and pustular lesions,

telangiectasia and erythema

were significantly reduced at the end of 16

weeks.

Rhinophyma

Patients with rhinophyma may benefit from specialized procedures

performed by plastic or dermatologic surgeons.

These include

electrosurgery, carbon dioxide laser, and surgery. Unsightly

telangiectatic vessels can be eliminated with careful electrocautery.
